今天我們幫各位小偵探總結一下,在輔導學生準備托福的過程中,托福聽力答題時常犯的9種錯誤有哪些呢?各位小偵探接下來在準備托福聽力時,可以繞道而行,避免同樣的錯誤再次發生。


1種:原文信息漏聽

  這是最常見的一種錯誤原因,在聽力的過程中,由於種種原因導致細節漏聽。什麼是「種種原因」呢?可能包括:

  1. 聽力基礎不好,比如單字量太少文法太差導致各種聽不懂

  2. 由於聽力說話者的語速較快,思路跟不上語速

  3. 由於環境干擾走神或者耐心不足注意力不集中

【解決方法】

  1. 練習聽寫背單字加強文法概念,提升基礎的聽力能力

  2. 練習跟讀並學習模仿提升資訊處理速度

  3. 必需連續聽音練習,提升耐力或有必要時做「抗干擾練習」,比如做聽力時,同時播放英文廣播等


 2 種:選項中的單字不認識

  選項中的單字不認識,直接導致選項無法正常翻譯理解

  《例》

  Why does the professor discuss refugia? Click on 2 answers

  A. To explain that the location of coral within a reef affects the coral’s ability to survive

  B. To point out why some coral species are more susceptible to bleaching than others

  C. To suggest that bleaching is not as detrimental to coral health as first thought

  D. To illustrate the importance of studying coral that has a low vulnerability of bleaching

  這道題目B選項中的susceptibleC選項中的detrimental,以及D選項中的vulnerability很多同學可能不認識,不知其意,所以在選擇答案時出現困難。

【解決方法】

課後通過單字書大量累積單字,練習題目的時候在文章中和選項中,把自己不懂和似懂非懂的單字給記錄下來,形成自己的單字本


3種:選項翻譯錯誤

  句子的結構辨識不清,導致翻譯出錯。

  《例》

  What point do the speakers make about the background of The Dreamer?

  A. It is a good example of Beaux’s unusual style of brushstroke.

  B. It resembles the backgrounds of other Beaux portraits.

    C. Its lack of clarity emphasizes the theme of the painting.

  D. It is meant to suggest that the woman is in a dark room.

  這個題目的正確答案為C,正確翻譯是:缺少清晰度的背景強調了這幅畫的主題

  

很多同學把這句話中的lack看成了謂語動詞,翻譯成:背景沒有清晰的強調這幅畫的主題,和正確的翻譯截然相反,導致選錯。

【解決方法】

加強文法,確定好詞性和句子成分


 4 種:形近詞看錯

由於把選項中的形近詞看錯,或者把某個單字看成另外一個形近詞,導致理解錯誤。

  《例》

  What is the lecture mainly about?

  A. The environmental effects of heap roasting

  B. The reforestation efforts in the Copper Basin

  C. The process of mining and producing copper

  D. Damages caused during an attempt to clean up industrial waste

有部分同學把AB選項中的effecteffort看混淆,或者把B選項中的reforestation看成deforestation,導致理解的意思截然不同,所以選錯。

【解決方法】

睜大雙眼,仔細審查題目、看清選項描述。


 5 種:沒有留意到單詞的複數形

  在「主旨題」中,做主詞的單複數有截然不同的意義,如果是複數名詞則意味著這篇講座必須講解多個事物或者從多角度多方面講解某個事物;如果此篇講座只講解了單一事物或一個方面,則複數選項為錯,很多同學沒有仔細到單複數的變化,導致選錯。

  《例》

  What are the speakers mainly discussing?

  A. An architect from the United States and a house design she created

  B. The disadvantage of houses based on a square design

  C. Difficulties faced by residential architects in the nineteenth century

  D. Women who had a major influence on architecture in the United States

  這個題目的正確答案為A,很多同學會選DD選項的主詞是women,而這篇講座只講了一個女建築師的事情,所以排除D

2020-2021因為新冠肺炎疫情的影響,美國高等院校陸續公佈標準化考試接連取消,或者採“Test-Optional”。這也代表了其他申請文書資料例如essay,就變得更加重要了。

隨著申請高峰期的到來,越來越多的美國大學也公佈了essay的題目。福爾摩思學院陸續從各大學的網站,彙整了30幾所大學的essay題目,讓大家可以快速瀏覽每間學校的要求喔!

Rather than asking you to write one long essay, the MIT application consists of several short response questions and essays designed to help us get to know you. Remember that this is not a writing test. Be honest, be open, be authentic—this is your opportunity to connect with us.
 

You should certainly be thoughtful about your essays, but if you’re thinking too much—spending a lot of time stressing or strategizing about what makes you “look best,” as opposed to the answers that are honest and easy—you’re doing it wrong.

Our questions

For the 2020–2021 application year, we’re asking these short answer essay questions:


We know you lead a busy life, full of activities, many of which are required of you. Tell us about something you do simply for the pleasure of it. (100 words or fewer)


Although you may not yet know what you want to major in, which department or program at MIT appeals to you and why? (100 words or fewer)

 

At MIT, we bring people together to better the lives of others. MIT students work to improve their communities in different ways, from tackling the world’s biggest challenges to being a good friend. Describe one way in which you have contributed to your community, whether in your family, the classroom, your neighborhood, etc. (200-250 words)


Describe the world you come from; for example, your family, clubs, school, community, city, or town. How has that world shaped your dreams and aspirations? (200-250 words)


Tell us about the most significant challenge you’ve faced or something important that didn’t go according to plan. How did you manage the situation? (200-250 words)


There is also one final, open-ended additional information text box, where you can tell us anything else you think we really ought to know.

Short Answer Questions Applicants submitting the Coalition Application, Common Application, or Quest Bridge Application will respond to the following short answer questions:
Students at Yale have plenty of time to explore their academic interests before committing to one or more major fields of study. Many students either modify their original academic direction or change their minds entirely. As of this moment, what academic areas seem to fit your interests or goals most comfortably? Please indicate up to three from the list provided. Why do these areas appeal to you? (125 words or fewer)


What is it about Yale that has led you to apply? (125 words or fewer)


Applicants applying with the Quest Bridge Application will complete the questions above via the Yale Quest Bridge Questionnaire, available on the Yale Admissions Status Portal after an application has been received.


Applicants submitting the Coalition Application or Common Application will also respond to the following short answer questions, in no more than 200 characters (approximately 35 words):


What inspires you? Yale’s residential colleges regularly host conversations with guests representing a wide range of experiences and accomplishments. What person, past or present, would you invite to speak? What question would you ask? You are teaching a Yale course. What is it called? Most first-year Yale students live in suites of four to six students. What do you hope to add to your suitemates’ experience? What do you hope they will add to yours?


Essays

Applicants submitting the Coalition Application or Common Application: use the two short essays (250 words or fewer) below to reflect on topics and personal experiences that will help the Admissions Committee learn more about you. 


1. Yale’s extensive course offerings and vibrant conversations beyond the classroom encourage students to follow their developing intellectual interests wherever they lead. Tell us about your engagement with a topic or idea that excites you. Why are you drawn to it?


2. Respond to one of the following prompts:2A. Reflect on your membership in a community. Why is your involvement important to you? How has it shaped you?  You may define community however you like.
2B. Yale students, faculty, and alumni engage issues of local, national, and international significance. Discuss an issue that is important to you and how your college experience could help you address it.
2C. Tell us about your relationship with a role model or mentor who has been influential in your life. How has their guidance been instrumental to your growth?


Applicants submitting the Coalition Application: In addition to responding to the prompts above, upload an audio file, video, image, or document you have created. The upload should complement your response to one of the prompts. Above your response, include a one-sentence description of your upload. Please limit uploads to the following file types: mp3, mov, jpeg, word, pdf. Advanced editing is not necessary. Uploads provided via the Coalition Application will be reviewed by the Admissions Office only. Review the supplementary material instructions for material that may be evaluated by Yale faculty. 


Engineering Essay

Applicants submitting the Coalition Application or Common Application who select one of Yale’s engineering majors will also respond to the prompt below in 250 words or fewer:

Please tell us more about what has led you to an interest in this field of study, what experiences (if any) you have had in engineering, and what it is about Yale’s engineering program that appeals to you.

How does the University of Chicago, as you know it now, satisfy your desire for a particular kind of learning, community, and future? Please address with some specificity your own wishes and how they relate to UChicago.

1.Who does Sally sell her seashells to? How much wood can a woodchuck really chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? Pick a favorite tongue twister (either originally in English or translated from another language) and consider a resolution to its conundrum using the method of your choice. Math, philosophy, linguistics… it’s all up to you (or your woodchuck).


2.What can actually be divided by zero?


3.The seven liberal arts in antiquity consisted of the Quadrivium — astronomy, mathematics, geometry, and music — and the Trivium — rhetoric, grammar, and logic. Describe your own take on the Quadrivium or the Trivium. What do you think is essential for everyone to know?


4.Subway maps, evolutionary trees, Lewis diagrams. Each of these schematics tells the relationships and stories of their component parts. Reimagine a map, diagram, or chart. If your work is largely or exclusively visual, please include a cartographer’s key of at least 300 words to help us best understand your creation.


5.”Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?” – Eleanor Roosevelt. Misattribute a famous quote and explore the implications of doing so.


6.Engineer George de Mestral got frustrated with burrs stuck to his dog’s fur and applied the same mechanic to create Velcro. Scientist Percy Lebaron Spencer found a melted chocolate bar in his magnetron lab and discovered microwave cooking. Dye-works owner Jean Baptiste Jolly found his tablecloth clean after a kerosene lamp was knocked over on it, consequently shaping the future of dry cleaning. Describe a creative or interesting solution, and then find the problem that it solves.


7.In the spirit of adventurous inquiry (and with the encouragement of one of our current students!) choose one of our past prompts (or create a question of your own). Be original, creative, thought provoking. Draw on your best qualities as a writer, thinker, visionary, social critic, sage, citizen of the world, or future citizen of the University of Chicago; take a little risk, and have fun!

英國媒體曾經出過【十大高薪英文名排行榜】的榜單。

與錢有關的英文名

1.每個湯姆、迪克和哈利
就是所有人」的意思,和everyone, everybody同樣。而這個俚語的意思,有點像中文 “阿貓阿狗的感覺,就是泛指一群不重要的人

是外國人很常見的姓氏,keep up是趕上的意思,整句的意思是「(在物質生活方面)與朋友(或鄰居)互相比較

When I think about dreams, like many of you, I think about this picture. I was eight when I watched Neil Armstrong step off the Lunar Module onto the surface of the Moon. I had never seen anything like it before, and I’ve never seen anything like it since. 
當我想到夢想,與很多人一樣我會想到這張圖片。八歲時我看見尼爾·阿姆斯壯從登月艙中走出踏上月球表面。前無古人、後無來者。

We got to the Moon for one simple reason: John Kennedy committed us to a deadline. And in the absence of that deadline, we would still be dreaming about it. Leonard Bernstein said two things are necessary for great achievement: a plan and not quite enough time. 
我們登月的原因很簡單:甘迺迪總統向大家承諾了最後期限。如果沒有這個最後期限,也許這件事還只是一個夢想。李昂納德·伯恩斯坦說過:偉大的成就有兩個必要條件,一個計畫和不太夠的時間。

Those iconic images of the astronauts bouncing on the Moon obscure the alcoholism and depression on Earth.

The frenzy of our activism neutralizes our work for peace. It destroys our own inner capacity for peace.” Too often our dreams become these compartmentalized fixations on some future that destroy our ability to be present for our lives right now. Our dreams of a better life for some future humanity or some other humanity in another country alienate us from the beautiful human beings sitting next to us at this very moment.

Well, that’s just the price of progress, we say. You can go to the Moon or you can have stability in your family life. And we can’t conceive of dreaming in both dimensions at the same time. And we don’t set the bar much higher than stability when it comes to our emotional life. Which is why our technology for talking to one another has gone vertical, our ability to listen and understand one another has gone nowhere. 
好吧,我們說這就是進步的代價。你可以去月球或者也可以僅僅維持家庭的穩定。在同一時間,魚與熊掌不可兼得。而且說到感情生活的時候我們也不敢奢望太多,簡單穩定即可。所以幫助我們與他人交流的科技一直呈指數式增長但是我們傾聽和理解別人的能力卻沒有變化。

Our access to information is through the roof, our access to joy, grounded. But this idea, that our present and our future are mutually exclusive, that to fulfill our potential for doing we have to surrender our profound potential for being, that the number of transistors on a circuit can be doubled and doubled, but our capacity for compassion and humanity and serenity and love is somehow limited is a false and suffocating choice.

In 2016, it is the dimension of our being itself that cries out for its fair share of our imagination.

For a few days, for tens of thousands of people, we created these worlds that everybody said were the way they wish the world could always be. What if we experimented with creating that kind of world these next few days?

Maybe it’s “I want to stay sober” or “I want to build a tree house with my kid.” You know, instead of going up to the person everybody wants to meet, go up to the person who is all alone and ask them if they want to grab a cup of coffee.

I think what we fear most is that we will be denied the opportunity to fulfill our true potential, that we are born to dream and we might die without ever having the chance.

Imagine living in a world where we simply recognize that deep, existential fear in one another and love one another boldly because we know that to be human is to live with that fear. It’s time for us to dream in multiple dimensions simultaneously, and somewhere that transcends all of the wondrous things we can and will and must do lies the domain of all the unbelievable things we could be.

此類搭配題的題目特點:主要是需要根據題目和選項當中所陳述的不同人物以及觀點、做法、研究成果,或者提出的理論進行搭配解題,而這種題型主要還可以分為以下兩種不同類型:


1. 
具體人名(通常出現first name + last name)搭配理論

    例如:劍橋4 Test 2 Reading Passage 1 – Lost for words當中的Question 5-8;

2. 集合人物(通常是某些種族、國際或者社會團體)搭配理論

    例如:劍橋8 Test 1 Reading Passage 1 – A Chronicle of Timekeeping當中的Question 5-8。

在絕大多數的雅思真題中,此類題目基本上需要考生在整篇文章當中搜尋相關的資訊,所以資訊涵蓋的範圍是比較大的。

然而此類題型的定位,也是所有搭配題中相對容易的,因為「人物名字」就是雅思閱讀中比較容易定位的,所以無論「人物」是出現在題目或是選項中,他們都可以作為關鍵詞來定位。


但是有兩點必須特別注意:

  1. 人物可能在原文當中不止出現一次,也就是說同一組人群或者同一個人物可能出現在不同的段落當中,而且在同一個段落,人物可能還出現在不止一句話當中,所以這些相對應的句子或者段落,都是我們需要進行解題的目標範圍

  1. 如果題目是具體人名(通常出現first name + last name)理論型搭配題,那麼人物在第一次出現的時候一定會是完整的first name + last name的形式,但是從人物第二次出現開始,一般都只出現該人物的last name,所以考生在定位的時候需要極其注意不要漏掉任何一個人物出現的句子。比如說:Michael Jackson如果第一次在文章中出現,那麼一定是完整的first name + last name的形式,但是當他第二次或者第三次出現的時候,一般就只會出現Jackson了,也就是他的last name。

如同「事物+特徵類」搭配題一樣,「人物+理論型」題目也要在解題之前注意題目和選項數量的配比。有時候在題目的要求當中會出現NB的要求,也就是小提示:You may use any letter more than once. 在這個時候如果選項是人物的話,NB的要求就意味著有一個人物會被選到兩次,而根據經驗,這個重複選擇的人物通常都是原文當中出現最多的人物


例如劍橋4教材Test 2的 Reading Passage 1 Lost for words後面的Question 5-8中,因為題目有NB的要求,所以這題的五道小題中就會有兩題選擇同一個人物,而這個人物就有可能是在原文當中出現最多的那一位。

所以,在解這道題的時候,我們不難發現最終重複選擇的那個人物是B選項的Salikoko Myfwene,而這個人物在原文當中分別出現在第五段、第六段和第七段,是所有選項人物當中出現次數最多的。


所以,在解題的時候提前考慮一下「題目和選項的配比」,也是解答人物+理論型搭配題的一個解答技巧喔!

下筆前大家必須要先搞清楚一件事:雅思作文到底要考的是什麼?

思維邏輯」才是主要關鍵和搶分重點,語言只是輔助工具,運用恰當的語言去表達個人的思維邏輯。千萬不要為了使用某些看起來高大上的單字或句型,而影響觀點的構思和鋪陳。並不是非得用深難字詞才能拿高分,只要觀點清晰、邏輯嚴謹,比硬要套上幾個單字要來得容易拿分。

其實雅思寫作Task2題型一般有三大類:

  1. Report
  2. Argumentation
  3. Report + Argumentation的結合體


Report只有三個要素:

          1. cause

          2. influence

          3. solution


也就是說,要嘛就是問你「這個現象產生的原因」,要嘛就是「這個現象產生了什麼樣的影響,不論是正面或反面、積極或消極的」,要嘛就是「要你提出解決方案」。

然而通常report類的文體,不會同時出現以上三個要素,只會有一到兩個的配搭,意即:

  1. cause + influence
  2. cause + solution
  3. influence + solution
  4. 或只問influence
關於這種題型,它的結構就非常的單一:

通常這個結構應該視情況而定。


Argumentation—般有三種問法:

      1. discuss both views and give your own opinion

      2. to what extent do you agree or disagree

      3. do you think the advantage outweigh the disadvantage

其實argumentation說起來就是兩種:1和 2&3,因為2和3可以看成同一類。


小偵探們會問:這兩種有區別嗎?當然有啦!

你看,因為discuss both views and give your own opinion,是要你先分析雙方有什麼合理之處,然後再給你自己的個人觀點

很明顯這是需要「均衡結構」,就是說假如你支持觀點1用了三個論點,然後你到支持觀點2的時候,也得同樣用三個論點,最後在結尾清晰表達你自己的最後看法。

對於這種題型,開頭段就是開門見山的表明觀點,舉個例子:some people argue, while others claim that. I personally believe that.

所以這個文體的結構應該是:

請注意,這個題型是不能用一面倒的。


agree/disagree

或是advantage/disadvantage題型。根據雅思考官的建議,最理想的結構是:

萬一想不出讓步段,或者時間太緊了來不及讓步,可以嗎?雅思考官認為也是可以的!並不影響。也就是說,在這種情況下可以使用一面倒,而且不影響你拿7分。
 

重點來了,快認真聽!

在這裡,福爾摩思說說一些記單字的方法。其實不特別,很多人都在用。雅思寫作本身就沒有明確的單字表,為什麼我們卻偏偏要給自己這麼大的負擔和壓力去背單字呢?
 

背單字的時候,一定要結合topics、結合觀點,有一條的脈絡

舉個例子,寫 What are the influences if the gap between the poor and the rich is widening.

貧富懸殊擴大

The widening disparity between the rich and the poor

—影響influence —兩極化 polarize community —激化社會矛盾intensify the social conflict —社會對立social incompatibility —心理問題 induce psychological problem —仇富心理 result in hatred for the wealthy —自卑心理suffer from inferior mentality


—行為過激aggressive behaviour — 遊行protest — 罷工strike —強烈抗議 outcry —暴亂riot —反政府反社會 anti-government/anti-society —發洩情緒及不滿 give vent to their anger and dissatisfaction


—增加犯罪 drive up the crime rate —社會不公平social inequality —更可能獲得公共資源have more access to public resources


—比其他人更容易獲得社會特權 acquire special privilege over the poor — 進一步分化社會,加劇社會仇恨 Further polarize the society and fuel social hatred — 產生惡性循環thereby creating a vicious circle


這麼記單字的話,各位小偵探的思緒就會更加清晰,而且避免為了使用某個大字而只能妥協某個觀點的做法。重要的是:單字絕對不再是一個孤立的點,而是一條清晰有邏輯的線。

 

小偵探應該要有這種能力:一種能繞開某個字,也能清晰表達自己觀點的能力

說到這兒,小偵探們是否開始變得有信心,甚至豁然開朗呢?因為看到這裡,你應該回頭檢視你的雅思複習計畫,讓它變得異常的具體和量化。

正式雅思考試之前,誠心建議小偵探們需要寫大概15~20篇雅思寫作Task2。只有足夠的練習,才能培養你的寫作思路以及寫出自己的風格。

建議考試前每天寫2篇,如果很怕上考場成砲灰的,一天寫4篇。不要討價還價!

平時練習也必須要為自己計時,時間盡可能壓縮在30~35分鐘完成,平時習慣有時間的壓力,考試才不會被時間壓的喘不過氣。並且養成每次寫完,仍有一些時間重新閱讀和檢查自己的文章

其實重點是要看看自己理順了思路沒有、熟悉了文體沒有、闡明你所想的邏輯沒有、用上了該用上的句型沒有。

至於雅思小作文它同樣重要,因為它是你從6.5到7分的一個很重要的決戰因素。假如你發現明明感覺大作文已經寫得很好了,為什麼你的雅思寫作成績還是6或6.5,就是因為你的小作文拖垮了你的分數。


小作文練習大概每天寫一篇就夠了,而且時間一定不能超過18分鐘


無論是平時練習還是真正的實戰,應該先審題,尤其是大作文。認真閱讀題目,圈出關鍵字,一定要緊緊圍繞題目的問題和它所隱含的內容去思考。最好先用2到3分鐘把自己的寫作框架簡單地記下來,然後才動筆。大作文應該控制在35分鐘寫完,小作文應該在18分之內結束


剩下的5分鐘應該通讀小作文和大作文各一遍,重點看看自己有沒有犯愚蠢的文法錯誤。因為在交卷之前,對於文章的觀點和結構已經無法有什麼改變了,唯一能給你加分,又或者說能讓你少扣分的機會,就是減少不必要的文法錯誤。


最後,福爾摩思想說的是:每個人的學習習慣和能力都不同,一種學習方法並不適合所有人,最重要的還是需要自己不斷地練習、練習再練習,才能真正有效的將雅思寫作能力提高。

Task 2【聽力同意閱讀】

學校只允許在學期末更換宿舍,學生建議允許學生在任何時間都可以換房間。

聽力中的女生表示同意,舉了自己的室友熬夜唸書而影響自己休息的例子,還說如果可以有償更換,出於省錢的考慮就不會因為很小的事情而換宿舍了。
 

Task 3

Geographical species,一個物種只適應本地環境且數量很多,但會被環境分離到其它地區,因為不適應而很難活下來。舉例為爬行類動物(reptile),這個reptile現在只在一個地區有,但考古發現這個reptile其實很多地方都有,但因為板塊分離,這個reptile分散到了不同的地方,有的地方有肉食性動物,有的地方比如紐西蘭就沒有,因此它們就存活下來了。

【整體考試分析】

1. 這次考試很多小偵探臉都笑成了一朵燦爛的花,因為出現很多真題,除了TPO的題目之外,也有許多之前在課堂上練習的機經,這次和托福分手應該不用愁啦!

2. 獨立寫作終於又出現了長達十行的超長題目,但各位小偵探莫慌,因為題目越長,其實越好破題。托福大神們上課反覆重點強調的封閉語境,聽過的小偵探自然都懂。沒聽過的還不趕緊手刀衝來報名。

3. 閱讀有同學做到4篇文章都是大長段四段式,大長段已經是現在閱讀的主流趨勢,12月份要考試的同學們一定要提前做好相關訓練。

4. 聽力連續出現「排序題、五選三、四選二」,一定要堅持住,小宇宙一定不能崩!

5. 整合型口說和寫作這次都是常規的題型,沒有令人跌落椅子的驚嚇。而獨立口說和寫作都是課堂上講過的主題。

8. 學生交作業,老師發現作業本不夠,原來是後來加了幾個學生


Lecture:

1. 人類用火,發現了一個叫si的東西,然後通過做實驗證明古人有很多能力

2. 天文實驗室的選擇地點,原本各個大學獨立不同品質的望遠鏡觀測,後來建在山頂或者沙漠,但要考慮其他因素如供水,依靠不能觀測的雨季收集雨水

3. 鳥根據幼鳥的叫聲來給他們食物

4. coral reef,水中的糖分會導致細菌的滋生,最後會導致珊瑚礁的減少和死亡,然後還做了個模擬海洋環境的實驗

5. 考古學,土著澳大利亞人畫一種rock art,畫當地的動物和人們的生活,是很好的研究資源,舉了兩個例子:一個已經滅絕的動物,一個人種登陸

6. 兩棲動物:青蛙跨洲為什麼會有DNA相似的青蛙

7. Jane Austen & music

8. 三種不同massive的天體,著重討論了一個blue stragglers,給了兩個形成理論

9. 十九世紀創作音樂很貴,所以需要資助者(patron),後面隨著中產階級的增多,創作音樂就不貴了,資助的制度就消失了。這對音樂家來說有利有弊,舉了三個音樂家的例子,其中一個是貝多芬

建議把幾個短的假期變成一個week-long的長假期

聽力:

女生不同意,因為這樣的話,學生就要一直上課會更stressful,並且就算是假期變長了,也不代表學生會好好利用,例如用來寫research paper之類的,而是會用在旅遊或者其它的娛樂上,比如看電影


Task 3

商業策略:Pregiving,先給一點小的gift再提要求。教授舉例在environment group工作時,要治理河川污染但是沒多少人捐錢,然後就在信裡放了日曆作為小禮物,人們變得更願意捐錢,因此完成了項目。


Task 4

植物在flood area生存的適應法則:

1. Physical,舉例是一些草類的根是在水上面,可以從空氣獲得氧氣

2. reproduction change,有一種植物只會在乾燥氣溫下釋出種子,這樣更方便存活

Independent Writing

傳統的授課方式 (由老師講課、年紀14-18歲的學生做筆記,或者該讓學生討論,老師主導)在當下不適合了,因為沒有辦法為未來的事業做準備。有人認為新方法(student-lead discussion學生們互相交流,以及學生們做自己的工作和研究project-based,老師可以幫忙解決問題)更好。你認同哪一種?


Integrated Writing

Mars landing是在極地(pole)好,還是在赤道(equator)好。

閱讀:認為赤道好

1. 極地太冷,赤道溫度比較高,不會損害設備

2. 因為rotation離赤道距離更近,發射的時候就不用帶更多的回程燃料

3. 赤道有sunlight,極地太黑

聽力【反駁】:認為極地更好

1. 赤道白天升溫快、晚上降溫快,溫差大會損害設備

2. 設備以水為燃料,極地有大量的水

3. 赤道會有輻射(radiation)
